Sidney "Sid' Unruh

Sidney "Sid" Unruh, 57, of Newton died on Friday
(March 19, 2010) in Wichita at Harry Hynes Hospice Center at St. Francis
Hospital.
He was born on Nov. 25, 1952, to Oliver and Frances (Frick)
Unruh in Goessel. They both survive.
Sid was a 1971 graduate of Newton High School and worked as
a conductor/brakeman for 36 years with the Burlington Northern Santa Fe
Railroad. He was a proud member of United Transportation Union Local 477. Sid
was an avid golfer, good bowler and he enjoyed eating.
He was a quiet, reserved, laid-back man who was very giving
and generous. He loved his children and would do anything for them. He also was
known as a practical joker and the "favorite uncle" of the family.
He married Irma Sandoval on Jan. 26, 1976, in Colorado
Springs, Colo. She survives in the home.
He is survived by his wife, Irma Unruh; daughter, Sarah
Unruh of Newton; son, Brandon Unruh of Newton; parents, Oliver and Frances
Unruh; sister, Beverly Elliott of Hillsboro; and numerous nieces, nephews and
extended family.
Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Petersen
Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Grace
Community Church in Newton.
Memorial donations may be made to "Hope Lodge" in
care of Petersen Funeral Home.
