Maxine M. Hodges
Maxine M. Hodges, 75, died Tuesday (Feb. 9, 2010) at her
Newton residence. She was born on Nov. 7, 1934, in Ponca City, Okla., to David
and Vivian (Keyes) Adair.
She married Paul Hodges. They were later divorced. Maxine
graduated from Rice University in Houston. She moved to Newton in 2004 from
Atlanta to be close to her daughter.
Maxine looked forward to her travels that took her around
the world. She was a member of the Newton Fraternal Order of the Eagles, where
she was instrumental in planning the previous year's Christmas party for the
kids. She was a volunteer for Book ReViews in Newton, and enjoyed giving
attention to the animals at Caring Hands Humane Society. Maxine was a voracious
reader and also enjoyed computer games. She looked forward to eating meals out
with her friends and family, especially her daily lunch at the north Subway in
Newton. Maxine made friends easily and greatly enjoyed spending time with her
many friends and loving family.
She is survived by daughter, Elizabeth 'Beth' Usselman of Newton;
son, Robert R. Hodges of San Jose, Calif.; grandson, Richard 'Rich'
Little-Hodges of Gilroy, Calif.; sister, Jennie Jones of Wichita Falls, Texas;
former husband, Paul Hodges Jr. of Los Gatos, Calif.; and many special friends.
Maxine was preceded in death by her father, David Adair, and
mother, Vivian (Keyes) Adair.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday, with the family
receiving friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Petersen Funeral Home in Newton.
A funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Petersen
Funeral Home.
There will be a private family inurnment.
