Verla Swindler
Obituary
Verla M. Swindler, 82, died Oct. 5,
2017, surrounded by family at her residence.
She was born Feb. 22, 1935, in
Hutchinson to Virgil J. and Hildred M. (Smith) Hefling.
She was a graduate of Haven High School
and Hutchinson Junior College.
She spent her working life as an
administrator for Sedgwick State and Alliant Bank, Sedgwick.
She was a member and served in
leadership positions of Sedgwick United Methodist Church, United
Methodist Women, General Federation of Women's Clubs of Kansas, GFWC
Fifth District, GFWC Amitie, Sedgwick Booster Club, Haven High School
Alumni Association and Harvey County Election Board.
On Jan. 20, 1957, she married Charles
W. Swindler at Sedgwick United Methodist Church; he survives.
Other survivors include daughters:
Terri (Steve) Houdyshell, Owasso, Oklahoma, Lynn (Jon) Broadhurst,
Sedgwick, Lori (Dawn Carmody) Henks, Hutchinson and Cindy (Gene
Vogts) Swindler, Sedgwick; brother-in-law, Paul Henry, Moorehead,
Minnesota; sisters-in-law, Margaret and Venice Swindler, Wichita;
four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by infant
brothers, Vernon and Charles Hefling; and sister, Shirley Henry.
Visitation will be 6:30 to 8 p.m.
Thursday (Oct. 12, 2017) at Sedgwick United Methodist Church.
Celebration of Life will be 11 a.m. Friday (Oct. 13, 2017), also at
the church.
Memorials may be given to Hospice of
Reno County or Sedgwick United Methodist Church in care of Kaufman
Funeral Home, Halstead.
