Herbert 'Jean' Stack

Herbert "Jean" Stack, 58, died Saturday (Jan. 23, 2010) at Newton Medical Center.

He was born on May 14, 1951, in Bridgeport, Texas, to Norma D. (Wood) and Herbert Stack.

Herbert was raised and attended school in Decatur, Texas.

He married Rosalie Archuletta on April 1, 1976, in Amarillo, Texas.

He was an avid antique collector and worked in the Newton area in the construction area. Herbert also volunteered time at the VA Center in Wichita and Caring Hands Humane Society in Newton.

Survivors include his wife, Rosalie; three sons, Johnny, Joseph and James Garcia, all of Newton; brother, Boyd "Butch" Young of El Dorado, Texas; six grandchildren, Angela, Christina, Jessica, Steven, Mia and Nathaniel; and four great-grandchildren, Isaiah, Samuel, Katie and Ethan.

There will be a book signing from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home in Newton.

The memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Columbus Avenue Church of Christ.

Memorials may be made to Caring Hands Humane Society or Columbus Avenue Church of Christ in care of the funeral home, 120 E. Broadway, Newton, KS 67114.
