DANIEL VIERTHALER
1960 - 2017
Obituary
Daniel Joseph Vierthaler, 57, died on
Monday (Oct. 16, 2017) at his home in Newton.
Dan was born in Junction City to Dennis
N. and Jeanette (Kimminau) Vierthaler on Feb. 7, 1960. He attended
Holy Cross Catholic School in Hutchinson, graduating from Buhler High
School in 1978.
Dan married Charlene Koerner on Jan. 8,
1983. Together they had two beautiful daughters, Anastasia Susanne
(Stacie) Vierthaler in 1986 and Kristen Simone Vierthaler in 1989.
They were later divorced.
After high school, Dan started his
life-long career working with wood in lumber yards, starting with
Stucky Lumber Company in Hutchinson. He then worked at Crossroads
Co-op in North Newton, followed by Idaho Timber in Halstead and
Pluswood in Newton. His most recent employment was truss builder,
then yard manager at Kropf Lumber of Hesston.
Dan enjoyed woodworking, building
coffee tables, entertainment centers and an arch that was made for
Kristen and her husband Phillip's wedding. Dan also belonged to a
bowling league for many years at Play-Mor Lanes with his
brothers-in-law, and most recently at EastGate Lanes.
When he was not working, he liked to
plan road trips with Stacie to go out to see Kristen, Phillip and,
later, his beloved granddaughter, JoEllyn Delaine, in Protection. Dan
never took the same route there and back, enjoying the adventure and
scenery while driving the country roads. He liked to look at maps and
plan routes to various locations around Kansas just for fun. Dan was
a relaxed, easy-going person. He could make anyone laugh with his
jokes or storytelling. Dan had very recently taken a long vacation
with his daughter, Stacie, and both of his parents to the east coast.
Even though Dan was a private person, he was loved by many and will
be missed greatly.
He is survived by his parents, Dennis
N. and Jeanette Vierthaler of Hutchinson; daughters, Stacie
Vierthaler of Newton and Kristen (Vierthaler) and Phillip Sawyers of
Protection; one precious granddaughter, JoEllyn Delaine; and his
former wife, Charlene Vierthaler. He is also survived by a sister,
Sheila (Vierthaler) and Paul Strecker; sister-in-law, Patricia
Vierthaler; brother-in-law, Steve Koerner; brother and sister-in-law
Joel and Debbie Koerner; brother and sister-in-law Shawn and Marie
Ashcraft; and eight nieces and nephews.
Dan was preceded in death by his older
brother, Timothy Vierthaler.
