Dale A. Gaeddert

OMAHA, Neb. - Dale A. Gaeddert, Ph.D, loving husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, cousin, friend, man of faith and scholar, died Monday (Dec. 7, 2009) after a seven-month courageous battle with colon cancer. He was born to Albert and Edna Gaeddert on Feb. 10, 1938. He met his wife Judith Enns while attending Bethel College in North Newton. They were married Dec. 21, 1968. He leaves behind his wife Judy; daughter Gretchen Ward; sons Mike and John (Claudia); grandchildren David,  Mary, John (Rachel), Sarah, Sharon, Joshua and Josiah Ward and Brita and Laurel Gaeddert; sisters Carol Burkhart (Don) and Kathryn Gaeddert (Jeff Roberts); brother-in-law Myron "Sonny" Enns (Gwen); sisters-in-law Betty Schmidt (Robert) and Janet Coleman (Rich); and "daughter" Jane Baumann, R.N.

Dale earned his masters degree from The University of Kansas and doctorate In modern European history from Ohio State University. He taught history at Texas A & I and at the University of Nebraska, Omaha from 1968 to 2000. He volunteered at the University of Nebraska Medical Center.

Visitation will be at 3 p.m. today at the West Center Chapel with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Graveside Service will be at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at Forest Lawn in Omaha. The Celebration of Life will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Dundee Presbyterian Church, 5312 Underwood Ave. Memorials may be made to UNMC Colon Cancer Research or Dundee Presbyterian Church.
