Carroll Ashcraft
Carroll Gene Ashcraft, 87, died Saturday (Dec. 26, 2009) at
his son's home in Mooreville, Miss., after a six-month bout with cancer. He was
born on Oct. 8, 1922, in Kansas to Willard Leigh and Ruth Irene Orr Ashcraft.
He lived in Newton until 1942, when he went to serve in World War II while in
the Coast Guard. After the war, he moved to Hialeagh, Fla., where he lived
until 1988. He moved back to his hometown of Newton in 1988 and lived there until
moving in with his son six months ago.
He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American
Legion and was an active bowler.
Survivors include a son, Bruce Ashcraft (Lou Ann) of
Mooreville; two brothers, Leroy Ashcraft of Newton and Dick Ashcraft of
Lawrence; a sister, Norma Banaman of Newton; three grandchildren, Tiffany Hooks
of Tampa, Fla., Jennifer Wheeler of Mooreville and Chad Wheeler of Charlotte,
N.C.; and two great-grandchildren, Emily Hooks of Tampa and Chandler Caton of
Charlotte, N.C.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jane R. Ashcraft, and
his parents. The Memorial service was Tuesday at Boguefala Baptist Church in
Mooreville, with Brother David Perry officiating.
