Steven Garcia
Steven Garcia, 43, of Newton, died Saturday (Oct. 17, 2009) at
Wesley Medical Center in Wichita. He was born on April 14, 1966, in Chicago,
the son of Joe D. and Mary Garcia. The family moved to Newton when he was a
year old. Steven graduated from Newton High School in 1984. He married Michelle
Newsted on July 1, 1989, in Newton. She survives of the home. During the years,
he had worked at Excel and Full Vision. He was a member of Our Lady of
Guadalupe Catholic Church. Steven and Michelle were foster parents for several
youth. He enjoyed music, going to garage sales, playing cards and also
socializing with friends and family.
Steven also is survived by one son, Steven Marcus Garcia of
the home; three daughters, Alicia Garcia, Tonya Garcia and Nina Garcia; his
mother, Mary Garcia; one brother, Julian A. Garcia; one sister, Margarita
Shepler; a foster son, Tony Bland; two grandchildren, Kian Dussault and Cadence
Bland; and a niece, Micayla Shepler, all of Newton; and a nephew, Aaron Garcia
of California.
He was preceded in death by his father, who originally was
from Florence; and grandparents, Nicolas and Guadalupe Garcia, and Abraham and
Guadalupe Garcia.
Viewing will be after 9 a.m. Wednesday at Our Lady of
Guadalupe Catholic Church in Newton. Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be at
6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Our
Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.
Cremation will follow the services with private family
inurnment at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Newton.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be given
to the American Diabetes Association or the Huntington's Disease Association.
