Harold G. Schmidt
Harold G. Schmidt, 71, died Monday (Oct. 19, 2009) at his Newton
residence. He was born on Nov. 25, 1937, in Medford, Okla., to Albert and Erna
Agnes (Fleming) Schmidt. They preceded him in death. On July 5, 1969, he
married Welda Goering. She preceded him in death on Jan. 17, 1990. Harold was
an active member of First Mennonite Church in Newton. He was a retired
housekeeper for the former Bethel Hospital in Newton. He lived at Newton Plaza
Apartments for the last three years, where he made many friends. His family and
brothers were very important to him, and he looked forward to their visits.
Survivors include sons, Larry Schmidt of Topeka and Jerry
Schmidt of DuBois, Pa.; brothers, Wesley Schmidt of Newton, Allen Schmidt of
Hesston and Ernest Schmidt of Delia; and three grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Petersen
Funeral Home in Newton, with family receiving friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
Graveside service will be at 9:30 a.m. Friday at Restlawn
Gardens of Memory in rural Newton, followed by a 10:30 a.m. service at First
Mennonite Church in Newton, with Pastor Joan Boyer of the church officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to First Mennonite Church
in care of the funeral home.
