Lula L. Classen
Lula L. Classen, 87, died Thursday (Oct. 22, 2009) at Kidron
Bethel in North Newton. She was born on July 28, 1922, in Fairview, Okla., the
daughter of Jacob P. and Anna (Salaska) Nickel. They preceded her in death. She
graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1941. Following that, she attended
Wesley Hospital School of Nursing in Wichita. Lula married Samuel H. Classen of
Meade on March 9, 1944, at Ebenfeld Church in Hillsboro. He preceded her in
death. Besides being a homemaker, wife and mother, she helped her husband in
the Shaklee business for many years. Lula also was the Kansas state treasurer
for Child Evangelism Fellowship. She was an active member of Koerner Heights
M.B. Church.
Lula also was preceded in death by a great-granddaughter and
her brother-in-law, Clinton Schmidt.
Survivors include four children and their families, Bev
Willems and her husband, Frank, of Newton, Ray Classen and his wife, Jan, of
North Newton, Mark Classen and his wife, Linda, of Buhler, and Luke Classen and
his wife, Ellen, of San Antonio, Texas. She also leaves 12 grandchildren; 19
great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild. Lula also is survived by
her sister, Jeri Schmidt, and nieces and nephews.
Friends may call from 1 to 9 p.m. Monday at Broadway
Colonial Funeral Home in Newton, where the family will receive friends between
6 and 8 p.m.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Koerner
Heights M.B. Church in Newton.
Interment will be at Greenwood Cemetery.
A memorial has been established with Child Evangelism Union
