Grace Elizabeth (Munsell) Sheets
Grace Elizabeth (Munsell) Sheets died Thursday (Oct. 22,
2009) at Asbury Park Green House in Newton. She was born on Aug. 11, 1924, in
Newton to Roy Alpheus and Nannie Grace (Reese) Munsell. She grew up on a farm
near Sedgwick and graduated from Sedgwick High School. She then attended Kansas
State Teacher's College in Emporia to obtain a teaching certificate. She taught
at Excelsior, a one-room school in Darlington Township in Harvey County. She
married Frank E. Sheets on Oct. 14, 1944, in Newton, and they resided on a farm
in Harvey County. After his death, she returned to school at Bethel College to
obtain a bachelor of science degree. She worked at the Newton Public Library
until her retirement.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Frank;
and two brothers, Homer A. Munsell and Harold E. Munsell.
She is survived by two daughters, Susan and Greg Tompkins of
Newton, and Barbara and Mark Ready of Osawatomie; one granddaughter, Francesca
and Robert Hoch of Newton; and two great granddaughters, Sarah Gronau and Becky
Hoch.
Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Petersen
Funeral Home in Newton.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Petersen
Funeral Home Chapel. There will be a private family committal.

Newton Public Library.
