F. Mildred Lantis
F. Mildred Lantis, 98, died Monday (Oct. 26, 2009) at
Schowalter Villa in Hesston. She was born on Jan. 1, 1911, in Newton to William
and Olive Glee (Durant) Wilkens. They preceded her in death. She was married to
Roy Lantis. He died on Oct. 27, 1974. She was a member of Salem United
Methodist Church since she was 12 years old, joining it when it was known as Newton
Evangelical Church. Mildred was a farmer's wife and liked to herd the cows. She
also ran Woolworth's. In later years, Mildred was a volunteer at Friendly
Acres.
On March 14, 2000, she moved to Schowalter Villa in Hesston.
Throughout her life, she enjoyed sewing, knitting and
crocheting.
Infant daughter Bess Elaine Lantis died on Nov. 23, 1940.
She is survived by a brother, Loran F. Wilkens of Hesston.
She also was preceded in death by a brother, Clifford Ray
Wilkens, and a sister, Hazel Burnett.
Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday at Schowalter
Villa Chapel in Hesston, with the service following at 2 p.m. Chaplain Nancy
Barrett Walker of Schowalter Villa will officiate.
Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Newton.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Care of Kansas
or Schowalter Villa in care of Petersen Funeral Home in Newton, which is in
charge of arrangements.
