Richard E. 'Dick' Schroeder
Richard E. "Dick" Schroeder, 62, died Thursday
(Oct. 29, 2009) at Newton Medical Center in Newton.
He was born on Nov. 27, 1946, in Ellsworth to Harold R. and
Lura (Corman) Schroeder.
On Dec. 3, 1967, he married Rowena O. Neeley in Plainville,
and she survives of the home.
He grew up in Beverly and graduated in 1964 from Beverly
High School. Richard retired as a U.S. Marshal after serving 28 1/2 years. He
also served on the Salina Police Department for four years. He attended Kansas
Wesleyan University and Butler County Community College. Richard was a member
of the Kansas Sheriffs Association and the retired U.S. Marshal Association.
He enjoyed stamp collecting and researching the
assassination of JFK. In his retirement, he ran Allied Investigations as a
private detective. He also co-owned Global Protection Services.
Family was important to Richard, and he looked forward to
spending time with his loving family and many friends and co-workers.
He is survived by his wife, Rowena, of the home; son, Jason
Schroeder and his wife, Joni, of Newton; daughter, Michele Nightingale and her
husband, Curtis, of Pratt; four grandchildren, Damian and Brittni Nightingale
of Wichita, and Jacob and Jaidyn Schroeder of Newton; and father-in-law, T.E.
Neeley of Newton.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. today at Petersen
Funeral Home in Newton, with the family receiving friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Trinity
Heights United Methodist Church in Newton, with Pastor Jason Reynolds
presiding. Parking for the memorial service is available on Boyd Avenue and the
west end of the Newton High School parking lot.
Memorial contributions may be left with the Schroeder Family
Memorial Fund in care of Petersen Funeral Home or First Bank of Newton.
