Gustav W. 'Gus' Harder
Gustav W. 'Gus' Harder, 101, passed away Saturday (Oct. 3,
2009) at Wheat State Manor in Whitewater. He was born on May 30, 1908, near
Brainerd, the eldest of 12 children born to Gustav A. and Anna (Wiebe) Harder.
On April 13, 1932, he married Kathrine Petker at First Mennonite Church in
Newton. He was a farmer and stockman. He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathrine;
a son, Kenneth; a brother, Herb; and sisters, Ann Claassen, Esther Wiebe,
Martha Dyck and Agnes Wuthrich.
He is survived by his children, Robert 'Bob' Harder and
wife, Christine, of Benton, Luella Zuercher and husband, Floyd, of Elbing, and
Doris Smith of Corvallis, Ore.; his brothers, Walter of Newton, Art of Olathe,
Gerhard of Whitewater, and Harold of El Dorado; his sisters, Elsie Regier of
Newton and Ella Harnley of Hagerstown, Pa.; seven grandchildren; 13
great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Friday at Lamb Funeral
Home in Whitewater, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m.
Graveside service will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Benton
Cemetery.
A memorial fund will be established by the service date, and
contributions can be mailed to Lamb Funeral Home, P.O. Box 358, Whitewater, KS
