Obituary
Jerry L. Giesbrecht, 76, died Wednesday
(Nov. 1, 2017) at Newton Medical Center. He was born Jan. 9, 1941, in
Montezuma to Gerhard and Mary Anna (Voth) Giesbrecht. On Nov. 6,
1960, he married Carol Sue Hood at Montezuma and she survives of the
home.
Jerry was a member of Eden Church of
God in Christ (Mennonite) in rural Burns. He was a retired school
teacher. Jerry had a love of teaching and continued to teach as long
as his health permitted. He got great joy watching children learn and
grow. Jerry was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother and
he greatly looked forward to spending time with his family and many
friends.
He is survived by his wife, Carol of
the home; sons, Kerry (Carol) Giesbrecht of Macon, Mississippi, and
Tyson (Tami) Giesbrecht of Gurley, Alabama; and daughters: Lisa
Loomis of Atmore, Alabama, Miriam (Brad) Jantz of Burns and Yolanda
(Jerry) Koehn of Louise, Texas. He also is survived by 17
grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; his brothers: Arnold (Ormah),
William "Bill" (Betty), Ronald (Saundra), Stanley (Jane)
and Douglas (Yvonne) Giesbrecht; sisters: Margaret (Leo) Classen,
Bonnie Decker, Mary Alice (Kenneth) Dirks, Anna Mae (Vincent) Berend
and Phoebe Giesbrecht; sisters-in-law: Betty, Elda, Pauline and Jane
Giesbrecht; and sister-in-law on Carol's side, Diane (Floyd) Gruver.
Jerry is preceded in death by six
brothers: Alvin, Milton, Tobe, Bennie, John and infant Gerhard
Giesbrecht; sister, Edna Schneider; brother-in-law, Dennis Decker;
and granddaughter, Carly Mae Jantz.
The funeral service will be at 10:30
a.m. Sunday (Nov. 5, 2017) at Eden Mennonite Church in rural Burns.
Visitation will be 3 to 9 p.m. Saturday (Nov. 4, 2017) at Petersen
Funeral Home, 215 N. Main, Newton, KS 67114, with the family
receiving friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Burial will be in the Eden
Church Cemetery.
