Margaret E. Perkins
Margaret E. Perkins, 80, of Newton, died Sunday (Sept. 27,
2009) at Newton Medical Center.
She was born on Jan. 24, 1929, in Newton, the daughter of
Carl F. and Ethel Brinkmeyer Kater. Margaret graduated from Newton High School
in 1947.
She married Dale Perkins on Sept. 10, 1950, at the
Evangelical & Reformed Church in Newton.
Margaret had worked in the Treasurer's Office of the Harvey
County Courthouse and the Harvey County A.S.C.S. Office. From 1969 until
retiring in 1985, she was a secretary for USD 373.
She was a member of First United Church of Christ, Women's
Fellowship at the church, Harvey County Shrine Club and Harvey County Rural
Life.
Survivors include her husband, Dale, of the home; two sons,
Roger Perkins and his wife, Tamara, and Scott Perkins and his wife, Addie, all
of Newton; one daughter, Carol Higgs and her husband, John, of Newton; eight
grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two sisters-in-law, Gloria Kater
of Newton and Kay Perkins of North Newton.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter,
Teresa Dalene Perkins; and one brother, Don Kater.
Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Broadway
Colonial Funeral Home in Newton, where the family will receive friends from
6:30 to 8 p.m.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at First
United Church of Christ in Newton, with the Rev. Bill Hickerson officiating.
Interment will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Newton.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be
given to Newton Fire/EMS, the Harvey County Sheriff's Department, First United
Church of Christ or Midian Shrine Plane of Mercy.
