BURRTON – Philip D. Short, 65, passed
away Sunday, November 26, 2017 at his home in Burrton surrounded by
his wife and children. He was born Dec.11, 1951 at Newton, to Lewis
M. and Rachel Jean (Giggy) Short.
He graduated from Burrton High School
in 1969. He attended Southwestern College in Winfield on a football
scholarship.
He was a rural mail carrier for 20
years in Derby and worked for King Construction, Hesston, for several
years before returning to Burrton in 2001. He worked for Hardwood
Millwork in Burrton for the last 15 ½ years. For several years he
was a volunteer at Valley Hope in Moundridge. He enjoyed hunting on
the family owned land north of Burrton and spending time there with
his beloved dog, Lizzie. He loved to ride his Harley. He married
Beth Sharlow in 1975 and had two sons, Levi and Joey.
He married Shannon Elliott in 1981 and
had a daughter, Rachael, and a son, Seth. On April 2, 2010, he
married Jean Anne “Annie” Baker in Newton. He is survived by: his
wife, Annie Short, brother Allen Short, Hutchinson; sons, Levi
(Shannon) Short, Gardner; Joey (Kelli Carter) Short, Yoder; Seth
Short, Burrton; daughter, Rachael (Alphonso) Meza, Wichita;
step-daughter, Haylie McMurry, Burrton, six grandchildren and three
step-grandchildren. He was proceeded in death by: his parents;
brothers, Larry and Jerry Short; and sister, LuJean Graybill.
Memorial service will be held at the
Burrton United Methodist Church on Saturday, Dec. 2 at 11 a.m.
with Pastor Kim Andrews presiding. Cremains will be buried at the
Burrton Cemetery immediately following the memorial service.
Memorials may be made to the Burrton United Methodist Church and the
Reno County Hospice.
