Raymunda Florez
Raymunda Florez, 87, passed away peacefully Monday (Sept.
28, 2009) at Kansas Christian Home in Newton. Maria Raymunda Jaso was born on
Jan. 23, 1922, in Newton, the daughter of Magdaleno and Maria Garcia Jaso. They
preceded her in death. She graduated from Newton High School and was a member
of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. She married John L. Florez on June
29, 1946. She worked at Boeing Aircraft building B-29 airplanes during World
War II and was employed at Bethel Home for the Aged as a certified nurses aide.
Raymunda was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister,
aunt and friend who devoted her life to serving those she loved and living her
Catholic faith. Raymunda loved family holidays, taking photographs, listening
to music and celebrating the Jaso family tradition of gathering to pray the
rosary on Christmas Eve before the Baby Jesus.
Raymunda is survived by her husband of 63 years, John; her
children, Mary and Ernest Fernandez of Prairie Village, John and Barbara Florez
of Newton, Carolyn Diana and Rick Moon of Mission; nine grandchildren; seven
great-grandchildren; her sister, Lucy Gomez and husband, Gregory Gomez, of
Overland Park; her sister, Katherine Ornelas and husband, Don Ornelas, of
Newton; sisters-in-law, Emma Jaso of Wichita, Marie Jaso of San Antonio and
Annie Florez of Wichita; and many loving nephews and nieces who will miss 'Aunt
Raymunda.'
Raymunda also was preceded in death by her brothers, Lidio,
Nick, James and Mike Jaso, and her sister, Belen Estrada.
Visitation will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Thursday at Petersen
Funeral Home, 215 N. Main St. in Newton. Rosary will be prayed at 6 p.m.
Thursday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 421 S. Ash in Newton.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Our Lady of
Guadalupe.
The family is thankful to the staff of Harry Hynes Memorial
Hospice and Kansas Christian Home for their loving care during the past two
