MONTE PHILLIPS
Obituary
Monte A. "Goose" Phillips,
63, died Thursday (Nov. 30, 2017) at Wesley Medical Center in
Wichita. He was born July 26, 1954, in Newton to John W. and Gwen
(Richards) Phillips. Monte was a member of the Salem United Methodist
Church, the American Legion and Eagles Aerie 2516, all of Newton.
He was employed as a machinist at AGCO
in Hesston for nearly 17 years. Monte also worked on the family farm
south of Newton. He had a love of animals and nature; he loved to
care for the animals that were on the farm throughout the years,
including many dogs, barn cats and raising sheep.
Monte passionately followed the Kansas
City Chiefs and KU Jayhawks. He proudly wore his KU and Chiefs hats.
Family was important to Monte and he
looked forward to spending time with his mother and his sister and
her family. He also enjoyed the time he spent with his friends.
Monte's legacy of giving will live on
with the "Gift of Sight" he shared following his death.
Monte is survived by his mother, Gwen
of Newton; sister, Marci Phillips of Valley Center; and a host of
nieces, nephews and friends.
He is preceded in death by his father,
John W. Phillips
A gathering and visitation will be from
5 to 8 p.m. Saturday (Dec. 9, 2017) at Petersen Funeral Home, with
the family receiving friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
A celebration of Monte's life will be 1 p.m. Dec. 16, 2017, at the
Newton American Legion, with Pastor Adam Welty presiding. Private
family interment will be in the Greenwood Cemetery, Newton.
