Found Dead This
Morning
Infant Son of Rev.
and Mrs. Goree Smothered in Bed Last Night.
This Christmas will
be one of infinite sadness to one home in this city. Rev. and Mrs. James A. Goree came in
yesterday from Pueblo to spend the holidays with her parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Frank Childs, 427 West Fifth street.
This morning James A. Jr. was found dead, having been suffocated during
the night. The child was sleeping
between the parents in a narrow bed and died while nestling on the mother's
breast. It usually wakened early and
would then rouse the mother. Its failure
to do it this morning led to the painful discovery by the mother. The little body was still warm, but life was extinct. The household sent for the coroner, who
investigated and found no need for official action.
The child was six
months old, bright and healthy, and had never been sick. The sympathy of many friends is extended the
grief-stricken parents, who are well known here. Mrs. Goree is a daughter of Frank Childs,
while her husband was at one time Pastor of the Second Baptist Church
here. He now has charge of a Church in
Pueblo.
The funeral will be
held at the Second Baptist Church tomorrow at 2:00 p.m. Rev. W.H. Garnett will officiate. The Evening Kansan-Republican, Newton,
