Melvin Weems
Obituary
Melvin T. (Mick) Weems, 79, passed away
on Wednesday (Dec. 6, 2017).
Mick was born on March 29, 1938, to
parents Henry and Bernice (Johnson) Weems. He attended Peabody High
School and relocated to Doland, South Dakota, his senior year, where
he graduated from Doland High School in 1957. Mick was well known for
his athletic achievements in football and track. He still holds a
record for fastest medley relay at Doland High School.
In April 1958, Mick accepted a position
as welder and worked his way up to a field test technician within the
engineering department at Hay and Forage, where he worked for more
than 41 years.
Mick was a great family man and a
loving father. He married Noreen (Albright) Weems on Feb. 14, 1958,
and the couple had three children together. Mick was looking forward
to celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary on Valentine's Day
2018. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and family.
Mick is survived by his wife, Noreen
(Albright) Weems of Peabody; son, Darren Weems of Peabody; brother,
John Weems of Newton; sister, Delberta (Weems) Brandt of
Jacksonville, Florida; grandchildren: Amanda Nuckles, Jarred Weems,
Garrett Weems and Ashley Weems: and great-granddaughter, Skylar
Westerfield.
He is preceded in death by his father,
Henry Weems of Peabody; mother, Bernice (Johnson) Weems of Peabody;
sister, Andrea (Weems) Rodgers of Newton; daughters, Teresa Weems of
Coffeyville and Sandra (Weems) Watson of Portland, Oregon; and
great-grandson, Reece Nuckles.
His family and friends will always
remember him as a memory maker. A funeral is scheduled for 10 a.m.
Wednesday (Dec. 13, 2017) at Peabody United Methodist Church.
