Elena Maria Padilla
Elena Maria Padilla, 73, of Leavenworth, entered into
eternal life on Tuesday (Nov. 10, 2009) at Kansas City Hospice House.
Elena was born on Sept. 19, 1936, in Newton to Jose and
Antoniz Terrones. It was there that she attended school and, on Aug. 3, 1957,
was united in marriage to Alfredo A. Padilla.
She was a longtime member of St. Joseph Church, where she
was a member of the choir and the altar society. She was a past regent of the
Daughter's of Isabella Circle No. 229. She also was a member of the Eagles
Auxiliary, American Legion No. 23 and a Past Chapeau of the 8-40.
She was a member of a fitness center for many years, where
she enjoyed exercising, walking and meeting new friends. She also enjoyed
gardening, crafts and her favorite pastime of reading. She cherished her
family, whom she loved, and valued the power of prayer, which she did
faithfully every day.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfredo, on Oct.
3, 2009; her parents; six brothers, Sirilio, Antonio, Hildo, John, Acapeto and
Jesse; and two sisters, Lydia and Josephine.
She is survived by her sons, Jose Padilla of Leavenworth and
Victor Padilla (wife Daisy) of Topeka; eight grandchildren, Elizabeth, Sarah,
Joshua, Andrew, Megan, Victor, Jazzmin and Trevor; two great-grandchildren,
Natalia and Alecia; and three sisters, Emilia Vargas, Patricia Martinez and
Louisa Morales.
A visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Belden-Larkin
Funeral Home in Leavenworth, with the family receiving friends from 5 to 8 p.m.
There will be a rosary at 6 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m.
Monday at St. Joseph Church in Leavenworth, with Father David McEvoy O. Carm
officiating.
Burial will be at 3 p.m. Monday at Mount Calvary Cemetery,
801 S.W. Westchester in Topeka.
The family requests memorial contributions be made to St.
Joseph Church or the American Cancer Society.
