Leona 'Lonnie' McComb
Leona 'Lonnie' McComb died Wednesday (Nov. 11, 2009) at
Wheatland's Health Care Center in Kingman.
She was born on Feb. 6, 1918, in Fairview, Okla., to Henry
and Justina (Martens) Cornelsen. They preceded her in death.
She married Joseph N. McComb on Jan. 13, 1945, in Newton. He
preceded her in death on April 6, 1986.
She was a homemaker and a retired cook for the Murdock
schools. Leona was an accomplished cook and baker. She loved traveling and
exploring new states. Leona enjoyed sewing and crocheting, and she read
scripture to other residents of Wheatland Homes. Her family was very important
to her, and she greatly looked forward to their visits.
She is survived by one son, Richard A. McComb of Mayflower,
Ark.; three daughters, Carolyn J. Thimesch of Valley Center, Lou Ann Zerger of
Flagstaff, Ariz., and Jessica E. Henning of Kingman. She has eight grandchildren
and 15 great-grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by her son, David McComb, and
nine brothers and sisters.
Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Petersen
Funeral Home Chapel, 215 N. Main St. in Newton. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m.
Friday at Petersen Funeral Home, with the family receiving friends from 6:30 to
8 p.m.
Burial will follow at Restlawn Gardens of Memory in rural
Newton.
