John Victor Helmer
John Victor Helmer, 84, retired Hehr
International maintenance department employee, died Thursday (Oct.
23, 2003) at Newton Medical Center. He was born April 30, 1919, in
Burstall, Sask., Canada, to David Sr. and Anna Elizabeth (Eberhardt)
Helmer. His parents preceded him in death. He married Dorothy Lucille
Haas Jan. 1, 1946. She survives. He was a member of Meridian Baptist
Church. He was a deacon at Emmanual Baptist Church in Marion, sang in
the church choir and enjoyed playing guitar. His favorite pastimes
were fishing and woodworking. He enjoyed feeding birds and squirrels
in his back yard. He was a loving and caring grandfather and father.
Other survivors include: daughter Donna
and Ron Robertson and their family, Amy, Katie and Emily of
Kingsport, Tenn.; daughter Verna Rowe of Newton, her sons and their
families, Chad, April and Gage Rowe of Sharpsburg, Ga., and Damian,
Marla and Clara Mae Rowe of Newton; daughter Roxann and Martin
Colburn and their son John of Clifton; daughter Doreen and Byron
Hartzler and their daughter Christen of Wichita; and
great-granddaughter Chelsea Rowe of Newton.
He also was preceded in death by: a son
, Stephen Duane Helmer; and four brothers, August, Albert, Harry and
William.
Visitation will be 1 to 6 p. m. Sunday
at Zeiner Funeral Home in Marion.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a. m.
Monday at Meridian Baptist Church, 1130 W. Broadway in Newton, wuth
the Rev. Jerroll Martens and Pastor Scott Kliewer officiating.
Burial will be 1:30 p. m. in Marion
Cemetery.
Memorials have been established with
Meridian Baptist Church and Gideon Bible Society, both in care of the
funeral home.
