Dorothy Helmer
Dorothy Lucille (Haas) Helmer passed
Wednesday (Dec. 13, 2017) at her home in Newton. Dorothy was born
June 7, 1925, in McPherson County to Henry A. and Pauline M.
(Reichert) Haas. Dorothy and John V. Helmer were married in 1946 in
Marion.
Dorothy taught Backyard Bible School in
Marion and enjoyed working with her hands, making and painting wood
crafts, crocheting and quilting. She was a CNA, CMA and physical
therapy assistant for more than 25 years at Newton Presbyterian
Manor. Dorothy was an active member of Meridian Baptist Church, where
she taught Sunday school.
Survivors include four daughters: Donna
Jean (Ron) Robertson of Kingsport, Tennessee, Verna Lucille Rowe of
Newton, Roxann and Martin Colborn of Newton and Doreen Joy and Byron
Hartzler of Wichita; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a
sister, Doris Mae (Haas) Liggett; and nieces, nephews and friends.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her
parents; five siblings: Lillie, Elsie, Reuben, Bernice and Harvey;
her infant son, Steven Duane; and her husband, John.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m.
Monday (Dec. 18, 2017) at Meridian Baptist Church in Newton. Burial
will be at 2 p.m. at Marion Cemetery in Marion. Visitation will be
held from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday (Dec. 17, 2017) at Zeiner Funeral Home,
205 Elm, Marion.
