Obituary
Junior Dale Hosford, 95, Olathe, died
Nov. 9, 2017, at Homestead Memory Care of Olathe.
Dale was born Oct. 3, 1922, in Whiting,
the son of Frances Elmo and Mary Ann Gragg Hosford. He attended
Muscotah Elementary School, Muscotah, and graduated from Atchison
High School, Atchison.
Dale and Edna M. Pruett of Atchison
were united in marriage on Dec. 20, 1941, in Platte City, Missouri.
Edna was the love of his life and they enjoyed more than 75 years
together until her death at age 93 on July 20, 2017.
Dale served in the United States Army
from Nov. 23, 1942, until his honorable discharge on Jan. 14, 1946.
He had been stationed and served in northern France, Ardennes,
Rhineland and central Europe and was awarded the European African
Middle Eastern Theatre Campaign Ribbon and the Victory Ribbon.
On return from the war, Dale worked for
the Missouri Pacific Railway and then as a patrolman for the Kansas
Highway Patrol. In later years, Dale and his wife owned and operated
several restaurants, including Buzz-Inn restaurants in Garden City
and Newton. and the A&W restaurant in Newton for more than 25
years before retiring in 1993 to Lenexa.
Survivors include two sons, John
(Connie) Hosford, Newton and Mark (Natalie) Hosford, Lawrence; two
daughters, Pamela (Tom) Hill, Lenexa and Kathryn (Ed) Lee, Salina;
nine grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and five
great-great-grandchildren.
Graveside services and burial will be
11 a.m. Wednesday (Dec. 20, 2017) at the Leavenworth National
Cemetery, Leavenworth. The Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home has been
entrusted with the final care.
