HESSTON - Lubin W. Jantzen, 90, died Sunday (Feb. 25, 2007) at Schowalter Villa in Hesston.

He was born May 25, 1916, near Paso Robles, Calif. to Frank F. and Anna Wiebe Jantzen. He married Matilda ("Tillie") Muller, and served with her as a missionary in India with the General Conference Mennonite Church for 36 years. They arrived in India in 1947, the year of India's independence, and left India in 1982. They recently celebrated 63 years of marriage. In his mission work in India, he served as a village evangelist, high school administrator, church planter and business manager at Union Biblical Seminary in Pune. After returning to the U.S., he served as a pastor at Emmaus Mennonite Church in Whitewater and First Mennonite Church in Newton. Lubin and Tillie together wrote and published their autobiography, "Guided Lives: Memoirs of a Mennonite Missionary Couple to India," in 2004. He attended Biola College and the University of California at Los Angeles. On furloughs in the U.S., he obtained a master's degree in education at Arizona State University, and did course work in South Asian Studies at the University of Pennsylvania.

Survivors included his wife, who continues to live at Schowalter Villa; a daughter, Esther Jantzen of Pomona, Calif.; and three sons, Dan and Betty Jantzen of Arvada Colo.; Jim and Susan Jantzen of Newton and Jonathan and Mary Beth Jantzen of Tucson, Ariz.; a sister, Anne of Stockton, Calif.; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Friday at Petersen's Funeral Home in Newton with the family present from 5 to 8 p.m.

Service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at First Mennonite Church in Newton, to be followed by a burial at Restlawn Cemetery.
