Robert Sanford Cornish

HUTCHINSON -- Robert Sanford Cornish, 93, retired postal worker, died Sunday (Oct. 15, 2000) at his residence in Hutchinson.

He was born Nov. 21, 1906, to Clinton and Laura (Williams) Cornish in Muskogee, Okla. They preceded him in death. He married Rosie L. Whiteside April 2, 1933, in Sapulpa, Okla. She preceded him in death April 4, 1992.

He lived in Newton for a short period of time, but spent most of his life in the Tulsa, Okla., area. He was retired from the U.S. Postal Service.

Survivors include: three daughters, Merlyn R. Buss of Hutchinson, Laurella V. Kerr of Sonora, Calif., and Rosalea A. Sudlow of Tulsa, Okla.; two brothers, Tommy M. Cornish of Houston and Billy Cornish of McAlester, Okla.; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; four step great-grandchildren; and one step great-great-grandchild.

He was also preceded in death by: a brother, Amasa Cornish; and a sister, Virgie Swindell.

Memorial service will be 7 p. m. today at Van Campen Funeral Home Chapel in Haven. Burial services will be in Floral Haven Cemetery in Broken Arrow, Okla., at a later date.

Memorials have been established with The Shriners Crippled Children's Hospital in care of the funeral home.
