Allen A. White
HESSTON -- Allen A. White, 90, died
Tuesday (April 15, 2003) at Schowalter Villa in Hesston. He was born
Aug. 27, 1912, to Elmer J. and Sadie (Byler) White in Newton. They
preceded him in death. He married Edna Horst in September 1936 in
Peabody. She preceded him in death April 10, 1982. He married Esther
Kuhns April 16, 1983, in India. She preceded him in death Oct. 14,
2000. He was an engineer and inventor, having nearly 50 patents to
his credit. He was employed with Hesston Corporation for 25 years,
retiring in August 1977. He was a member of the Whitestone Mennonite
Church in Hesston and directed Lakeside Mennonite Camp in LaClede,
Mo., for 10 years.
He was an ordained minister in the
South Central Mennonite Conference Church in rural Canton, First
Mennonite Church in rural Burns and the Christian Church of Peabody.
He was a gifted man and helped build equipment and machinery with his
family and was always willing to help others.
Survivors include: five sons, Donald
White and wife Sally of Chevy Chase, Md., Ivan White and wife Twyla
of Hesston, Roger White and wife Sherry and Virgil White and wife
Diane, all of Newton, and Darwin White and wife Theresa of
Hendersonville, Tenn.; a daughter, Colleen White of Elkhart, Ind.; a
brother, Dale White of Newton; three sisters, Neva White of
Manhattan, Elsie White of Hesston and Erna Jantz of McPherson; 16
grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
He also was preceded in death by: a
sister, Gladys Zook; four brothers, Warren White, Clem White, Calvin
White and James White; and a sister, Mary Wenger.
Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p. m.
Thursday with family greeting friends from 6:30 to 8 p. m. at
Broadway Colonial Funeral Home.
Graveside service will be 9 a. m.
Friday at Catlin Community Cemtery in rural Peabody.
Memorial service will be 11 a. m.
Friday at Whitestone Mennonite Church with the Rev. Leonard Wiebe of
the church and the Rev. Mark Isaac of Koerner Heights Church
officiating.
Memorials have been established with
the Mennonite Central Committee in care of the funeral home.
