Obituary
Elbert E. Esau, 91, passed away on
Tuesday (April 4, 2017) at Wheat State Manor in Whitewater.
He was born Feb. 9, 1926, in Newton,
the son of Edward and Clara Claassen Esau. He grew up in rural Butler
County and attended Whitewater schools.
On June 21, 1953, he was united in
marriage to Zola Smith in Pawnee Rock. The couple first lived in
Manhattan and then in Greece, where they worked with the Mennonite
Central Committee. They later lived in Butler County, where Elbert
was a farmer and stockman for 58 years. He was a member of the Emmaus
Mennonite Church in Whitewater.
He was preceded in death by his
parents; a daughter, Clarith Ann, in 1969; three brothers: Harold,
Victor and Paul; an infant sister, Ruth; and an adult sister, Elma
Esau.
He is survived by his wife, Zola; sons,
David (Alieen) of rural Hillsboro, Eldon and wife (Janice Regier) of
rural Whitewater, Nathan and wife (Tee Huang) of Wichita; daughter,
Doreene Esau-Rutherford and husband (Robert) of Wichita; seven
grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
There will be a visitation from 6 to 8
p.m. Monday (April 10, 2017) and a service at 11 a.m. Tuesday (April,
11, 2017), both at the Emmaus Mennonite Church in Whitewater.
Interment will be at the Emmaus Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests
memorials to the Mennonite Church USA, the Mennonite Central
Committee or the Emmaus Mennonite Church, Whitewater, in care of Lamb
