Obituary

Donovan D. Bachman, 86, passed away on Monday (Oct. 3, 2016) at Schowalter Villa, Hesston. He was born in Newton on Feb. 2, 1930, to Ernest and Prisca Krehbiel Bachman. He had farmed, then worked at Hesston Corporation for 30 years, was a member of First Mennonite Church, Newton, and had volunteered for both SOOP and MCC. On October 9, 1951, he married Helen Goertzen.

He is survived by his wife, Helen Bachman of Hesston; his children, Ron (Karen) Bachman of Hesston, Mary (Bruce) Dyck of Exeter, California, Ken (Rachel) Bachman of Hesston; grandchildren Amy (Derrick) Birdsell of Hesston, Lisa (Brad) Jacobs of Bedford, New Hampshire, Johann (Stacy) Dyck of Dallas, Texas, B. J. (Kristin) Dyck of Bakersfield, California, Ben Bollinger of Hesston, Lizzy Bollinger of Hesston; seven great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Florene Wiens and Kathryn Penner, both of North Newton.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Dale Bachman, and one sister, Elaine Goertzen.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m., with family present from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday (Oct. 4, 2016) at Miller-Ott Funeral Home, Hesston.

Graveside service will be at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday (Oct. 5, 2016) at Restlawn Cemetery, Newton, with a memorial service to follow at 2 p.m.,Wednesday, at First Mennonite Church, Newton, with Pastors Kay Schroeder and Anita Kehr officiating.

Memorials have been designated for Schowalter Villa Good Samaritan Fund or Mennonite Central Committee in care of Miller-Ott Funeral Home, 107 S. Lancaster, Hesston, KS 67062.
