Obituary
Helen Graves Ross, born June 15, 1928,
in El Dorado, passed away peacefully on Monday (Jan. 1, 2018) in
Denver.
After moving to Newton with her
parents, Helen graduated from Newton High School. She continued her
education at Ward Belmont College in Nashville, Tennessee, and the
University of Kansas. She was a member of Chi Omega sorority at the
University of Kansas.
While attending the University of
Kansas, Helen met Frank Ross. They were married May 17, 1952, and
made their home in Wellington in 1955, following Frank's service in
the Air Force.
An active member of the community,
Helen was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, Chapter ET of the
PEO Sisterhood, Beta Sigma Phi, 20th Century Book Club and a life
member of the University of Kansas Alumni Association. Her many
volunteer activities included the American Red Cross, the American
Cancer Society, a committee woman for the Republican Party and
serving as a volunteer at St. Luke's Hospital in Wellington.
Helen was known for her thoughtfulness,
compassion and her ability to establish rapport with everyone she
met. She always greeted people with a smile and a compliment. She
will be long remembered by friends, family and the many she touched
with her generous spirit.
Helen was preceded in death by her
husband, Frank; and her parents, Lewis and Theresa Graves.
She is survived by her son, Richard
"Butch" Ross and wife Nancy of Denver; granddaughter, Anne
Ross and husband Alex Kuykendall of Grapevine, Texas; grandson,
Michael Ross of Sacramento, California; and great-granddaughter,
Della Jane Kuykendall. Her grandchildren brought added joy and love
to her life. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Marilyn
Miller of Bainbridge Island, Washington; a niece; and two nephews.

funeral mass celebrating a life well-lived at 10 a.m. Friday (Jan. 5,
2018) at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Wellington. Visitation will
be from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Thursday (Jan. 4, 2018) at the Shelley
Family Funeral Home in Wellington, with Rosary at 7 p.m. at St.
