Josephine 'Pepa' Gomez
Josephine 'Pepa' Gomez, 87, died Monday (Aug. 3, 2009) at
Schowalter Villa in Hesston.
She was born on March 18, 1922, in Augusta to Miguel and
Magdalena (Chavez) Garcia. They preceded her in death.
On May 16, 1938, she married Pilar Gomez in Newton. He
preceded her in death on July 7, 2003.
Josephine was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic
Church in Newton. She was a devoted homemaker and well known for her cooking,
especially her tortillas and tacos.
Family was very important to Josephine, and she greatly
looked forward to spending time with her loving family and many friends.
Survivors include daughter, Frances (Gomez) Martinez of
Newton; son, Ramon Gomez of Newton; daughter, Dolores Rodriguez of Newton;
half-brother, Steve Espitia of Wichita; half-sister, Angie Flores of Newton; 14
grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by a daughter, Elsie Snapp;
half-brother, M. Abraham Espitia; and half-sisters, Lee Martinez and Susie
Sanceda.
Visitation will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Wednesday at Petersen
Funeral Home in Newton.
Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be at 6 p.m. Wednesday at
Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Newton.
Service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Our Lady of
Guadalupe, with the Rev. Juan Garza of the church officiating.
Burial will be at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Newton.
Memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of Guadalupe
in care of the funeral home
