Unruh, Albert D
from FAG
Our beloved father and grandfather, Albert D. Unruh, was born of Mennonite ancestry immigrants from Volhnim, Russia, to David C. and Helena Nightingale Unruh at Moundridge, Kansas on October 2, 1903. He peacefully passed away on June 26, 1981, at the age of 77 years, 8 months, and 6 days in a nursing home at Mt. Hope, Kansas. Death was caused by blood disease.
His early life was spent in the Burrton, Galva, and Greensburg, Kansas, areas. He moved with his parents to Chickasha, Oklahoma, November 15, 1915, where he lived for many years of his life.
As a young man, he was converted and baptized into the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite, on February 23, 1922, by the late Min. Hiram Mininger. On March 10, 1925, he was married to Mabel Schmidt at Chickasha, Oklahoma. After marriage they were engaged in the farming occupation.
To this union were born seven children.
In the spring of 1945, they moved to Copeland, Kansas, then moving to Hutchinson, Kansas, several years later.
Father encountered various difficulties in his life. We are thankful to God for the grace that was manifested, especially during the last number of years. We are comforted as to how he was able to face what life held, never hearing him complain. We mourn his departure, but hope to meet again on yonder shore.
Those surviving are our dear mother, Mabel Unruh of Hutchinson, Kansas; six daughters and one son: Erma and Clarence Nightingale, West Point, Mississippi; Bertha and Warren Nichols, Sublette, Kansas; Agnes and Donald Sarutzki, Klamath Falls, Oregon; Lorene Unruh, Denver, Colorado; Louise and Roy Blackard, Memphis, Tennessee; Robert and wife Carolyn, Marjorie and Seldon Matthews, of Hutchinson, Kansas; fifteen grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; five brothers and five sisters: Ed and Walter of Chickasha, Oklahoma; Leslie and Clyde of Malin, Oregon; Clarence of Brooksville, Mississippi; Mary, Mrs. William Jantz; Carrie, Mrs. Simon Koehn; Pearl, Mrs. Menno Koehn; Rosetta, Mrs. Lloyd Koehn of Chickasha, Oklahoma; and Anna, Mrs. Sam Nichols, Livingston, California; also other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
Funeral services were held in the Plainview Congregation, Chickasha, Oklahoma, June 28, 1981, with Min. Rawlin Nightingale and Min. Glen Nightingale in charge. Burial was in the Plainview Cemetery.
