Rosemary Cunningham
Rosemary Cunningham, 90, passed away Sunday (Aug. 16, 2009)
at Kansas Christian Home in Newton.
She was born on April 29, 1919, in Festus, Mo., to Andrew
and Sally (Boyer) Hayes. They preceded her in death.
In 1937, she won the Twin Cities beauty contest in Missouri.
On Sept. 3, 1938, she married James M. Cunningham in
Missouri. He survives of the home.
Rosemary was a member of St. Matthew's Episcopal Church in
Newton. She was co-owner and operator, alongside her husband Jim, of the
Cunningham Clothing store, which operated in downtown Newton for many years.
She was an avid bridge player. She also enjoyed playing golf
and tennis. Rosemary enjoyed tending flowers; roses were one of her favorites.
Family and friends were important to Rosemary, and she greatly looked forward
to spending time with her many friends and loving family.
Other survivors include son, Larry and Sharon Cunningham of
Canon City, Colo., and grandson, Caleb Cunningham of Canon City.
She also was preceded in death by a brother, Ivan Hayes, and
sisters, Della Roberson and Isabel Baird.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday at Petersen
Funeral Home in Newton, with the service to follow at 2 p.m. at the funeral
home, with Chaplain Denny Bell of Kansas Christian Home in Newton officiating.
Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Newton.

in care of the funeral home.
