Irene E. Peterson
Irene E. Peterson, 98, passed away Saturday (Aug. 22, 2009)
at Newton Presbyterian Manor.
She was born on Sept. 29, 2009, in Wilson to Irvin and
Millie E. (Zelenka) Miller. They preceded her in death.
On April 17, 1934, she married Leland H. Peterson in
Jetmore. He preceded her in death in 1991.
Irene was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church in
Newton, where she was active in the Womens Missions of the Church. She also was
a member of the Sisters of the West and 50-53 Study Club.
She worked as a bookkeeper for Reber's Fashions in downtown
Newton. Irene enjoyed gardening and sewing and was an outstanding cook.
Friends and family were very important to her, and she
greatly looked forward to spending time with her many friends and loving
family.
Survivors include sons, Ronald and Lucretia Peterson of
Wichita, and Donald and Carol Peterson of Wilton, Conn.; sisters, Elsie Bisch
and Florence Lee, both of Dodge City; seven grandchildren; 17
great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by brothers, Fred Miller, Ray
Miller, Steve Miller and Henry Miller; and sisters, Stella Lee and Gladys
Miller.
Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Petersen
Funeral Home in Newton, with family receiving friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral
home chapel, with the Rev. Alden Dick officiating.
Burial will be at Restlawn Gardens of Memory in Newton.
Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church
or Newton Presbyterian Manor in care of the funeral home.
