Lydia E. Schmidt
BUHLER - Lydia E. Schmidt, 94, passed away Saturday (Aug.
29, 2009) at Buhler Sunshine Home in Buhler.
She was born on March 31, 1915, in Harvey County, the
daughter of John B. and Justina Ediger Martens.
She was a homemaker. She was a member of Hoffnungsau
Mennonite Church in Inman and the Happy Hour Sewing Circle. On April 23, 1936,
she married Irvin R. Schmidt in Inman. He died on April 6, 1988.
Survivors include one son, Gordon Schmidt and wife,
Christine, of Inman; one daughter, Virginia Friesen and husband, Robert, of
Buhler; one sister, Velma Enns of Guyman, Okla.; eight grandchildren, Julie
Buller, Murray Thiessen, Stacie Klassen, Ryan Friesen, Natasha Henderson, Amy
Mitchell, Matt Downey and Erin Ensz; and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Carol Thiessen,
and three brothers, Harry, Menno and John.
Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Buhler Mortuary
in Buhler, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Hoffnungsau
Cemetery in Inman, with a memorial service to follow at 11 a.m. at Hoffnungsau
Mennonite Church, with Pastor Willmar Harder and Matthew Simon presiding.
