Wanda I. Ratzlaff

Wanda I. Ratzlaff, 66, died Wednesday (June 25, 2008) at Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice at Via Christi Regional Medical Center-St. Francis campus in Wichita. She was born Jan. 4, 1942, in Blackwell, Okla., to Harold A. and Esther I. (Kuehny) Bechtel. She graduated from Bethel College in North Newton with a degree in music. She worked as a music teacher in Goessel and was a homemaker and church secretary for the First United Methodist Church in Newton. In addition, she also served as organist for Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church in Goessel, First United Methodist Church and Salem United Methodist Church. She also had worked at a specialty shop called The Good Earth.

Mrs. Ratzlaff was a member of the Treble Clef Club and Friends of Newton Public Library, and she was a volunteer with the American Red Cross Bloodmobile.

On May 29, 1966, she married Norman Ratzlaff in Deer Creek, Okla. He survives of the home.

Other survivors include a daughter, Donna (and Bill) Hetrick and grandchildren, Andrew Hetrick and Luke Hetrick, all of Wichita; son, Rodney D. Ratzlaff of Overland Park; a sister, Elaine (and Alvin) Claassen of rural Whitewater; and a sister-in-law, Sue Bechtel of Sedgwick.

Mrs. Ratzlaff was preceded in death by a brother, Howard Bechtel.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Miller Funeral Home in Goessel, with family present from 6 to 8 p.m.

Family service will be at 9:30 a.m. Monday in the chapel at Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church in Goessel, followed by burial at 10 a.m. in the Alexanderwohl Cemetery.

A public memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Alexanderworhl Mennonite Church.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Treble Clef Club or Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice in care of the funeral home.
