Mrs. James H. Smith,
an old resident of Newton, but who of late years has resided in Denver, died in
that city on Sunday, Sept. 13th. The
body will be brought here on No. 6 tomorrow and will be taken immediately to the
cemetery where Rev. W.V. Burns will conduct the funeral services.
Mrs. Smith will be
remembered by the old settlers here, as she was one of the first women to
settle in Newton, coming here in 1871 and resided here for many years. Some years ago they removed to Colorado where
her husband was employed as conductor.
He lost his life in the Eden wreck about four years ago.
The near surviving
relatives of Mrs. Smith are: Frank
Smith, a son, residing in Denver; Mrs. Helvie, a sister living in Newton; L.E.
Corvin, a brother, living at Melvern, and Mrs. L.C. Walthoua niece, who resides
in Newton.
Mrs. Walthour was in
Denver at the time of Mrs. Smith's death and Mr. Walthour went out last
evening. They will accompany the body to
Newton. The
