Roland Henry 'Hank' Leisy
Roland Henry "Hank" Leisy, (Lt. Col., USAF Ret.)
formerly of Bethesda, Md., passed away June 9, 2009, in Kennesaw, Ga., from
Parkinson's disease.
Hank was born on Feb. 24, 1919, in Wisner, Neb., the son of
the late Henry and Anna Penner Leisy and spent his youth in Newton.
In 1939, he joined the Army Air Corps, where he served
during World War II and the Korean War. He retired after 23 years from the Air
Force as a command pilot with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
He then began a second career with the Navy department in
Washington, D.C., and finally retired in 1984. Hank attended Bethel College in
Newton and graduated from the University of Maryland. He was an avid golfer and
a life member of Congressional Country Club as well as a member of the
Hole-In-One Club. Hank had a kind nature and was an extraordinary gentleman.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 55 years, Therese
Kelley Leisy "TEK"; five children, Dr. Robert (Patricia) of West Des
Moines, Iowa, Mary Petrowski (Mike) of Austin, Texas, William (Claire) of
Marietta, Ga., James (Joyce) of Raleigh, N.C., and Ann Penner Strubel (Joseph)
of Geneva, Switzerland; eight grandchildren; sister, Gertrude McKellar of
Bellevue, Wash.; numerous nieces and nephews; and dedicated caregiver,
Josephine Abreu.
He was predeceased by his sister, Helen Westermayer, and
brother, Waldo Leisy.
Services and interment will be at 9 a.m. Sept. 9 at
Arlington National Cemetery. Mayes Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home in Marietta, Ga.,
is handling the arrangements.
