Thomas Alan Nevills
Thomas Alan Nevills, 70, retired teacher, passed away July
2, 2009.
He was born in Atoka County, Okla., to Walter Lee Nevills
and Ruth (Woolard) Nevills. They preceded him in death.
He graduated from Trousdale High School in 1957. He then
graduated from East Central State College in Oklahoma with a major in teaching
and a minor in mathematics. He later earned a master's degree from Fort Hays
State University.
He taught art for 18 years at the Peabody and Newton school
systems. He taught art at Chisholm Middle School and Newton High School from
1968 to 1979. He also taught K-State extension art classes in Newton for many
years.
He then became a nursing home administrator for almost 20
years in the Halstead, Oklahoma City and Wichita areas.
He finished his career returning to teaching at Butler
County Community College, teaching art history and college algebra. He retired
in 2007.
On July 10, 1964, he married Janice Marie Witte. They were
married just shy of 45 years. To this union, three children were born.
Tom was a faithful member of the Church of Christ his entire
life. He served as adult class teacher, deacon and elder in his service to the
Lord. Most recently, Tom and Jan worshiped with Northside Church of Christ. He
enjoyed reading, fishing, playing and talking with his grandchildren and
fellowshipping with his Christian friends.
Tom is survived by his wife Janice; children, Kyle and
Melanie Nevills of Garden City, Chad Nevills of Conifer, Colo., and Beth and
Jeff Fabrick of Maricopa, Ariz.; grandchildren, Parker and Hayden Nevills, and
Peter and Lauren Fabrick; brother, Joe and Betty Nevills of Crowder, Okla.;
sisters, Joan and Fred Peck of Oklahoma City, Martha Allen of Memphis, Tenn.,
and Nancy and Gerald Kinman of Keller, Texas.
He also was preceded in death by his sisters Marjorie Drake
and Linda Guadiz, and mother-in-law, Ruby Witte.
Services were Monday at Northside Church of Christ in
Wichita.

Northside Church of Christ, 4545 N. Meridian, Wichita KS 67204, and Harry Hynes
Memorial Hospice, 313 S. Market, Wichita KS 67211.
Baker Funeral Home in Valley Center is in charge of
arrangements.
