Audrey Lee Higgins
Audrey Lee Higgins, 85, of Newton, died Monday (July 20,
2009) in Wichita.
She was born on March 25, 1924, the daughter of Eva Ellen
(Reed) and Henry James Akers in Colchester, Ill.
On June 15, 1941, she married Kenneth L'emon Higgins in
Newton. He died on March 12, 1997.
She held a membership with St. Luke Presbyterian Church in
Newton.
Survivors include two sons, Jim Higgins and wife, DaLana, of
Mulvane, and Jerry Higgins and wife, Debby, of Mt. Olive, Ala.; one daughter,
Judy Gillmore of Pahrump, Nev.; one brother, Marvin Akers of Chelsea, Okla.;
one sister, Arliss Kater of Emporia; 10 grandchildren; and 10
great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were three brothers, Wayne, Lawrence
and Howard Akers; and five sisters, Louise Anduss, Lois Buller, Joyce Ann
Miller, Dorothy Grochowsky and Jeanne Sills.
Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Broadway
Colonial Funeral Home in Newton, with the family receiving guests from 6 to 8
p.m.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Broadway
Colonial Funeral Home Chapel, with Chaplain Peter Hartman presiding.
Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Newton.
