B. George Lies
Balthasar George Lies, 82, died Thursday (July 23, 2009) at
Providence Medical Center in Kansas City.
He was born on Oct. 1, 1926, in Clonmel to Balthasar J. and
Katherine (Girrens) Lies. They preceded him in death.
On July 31, 1960, he married Mareta L. Gatz in Newton. She
survives of the home.
They were members of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Kansas
City and attended St. Mary's Catholic Church in Newton.
He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean
War.
George was a retired truck driver. He loved to spend time
hunting and fishing. He also was an avid baseball fan. George greatly looked
forward to spending time with his loving family and many friends.
Other survivors include son, Michael Lies of Pleasant
Valley, Mo.; sister, Catherine Scheffler of Newton, Adelaide Schroeder of
Liberty, Mo., and Mary Dolores Gatz of Newton; grandson, Michael Lies of Kansas
City; granddaughter, Mareta Lies of Las Vegas; and six great-grandchildren.
He also was preceded in death by a brother, Fred Lies.
Funeral service was today at St. Mary's Catholic Church in
Newton, with the Rev. Jim Mainzer of the church officiating.
Burial was at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Newton.
