Mary 'Kit' Spangler
Mary "Kit" Spangler died Friday (July 24, 2009) in
Halstead.
She was born on April 7, 1920, in Paris, Ky. She was adopted
by Edna and Que Mattox. Later, Edna married Simon Shumate, and together they
raised Mary.
On Dec. 31, 1942, she married William Spangler in Lexington,
Ky. He preceded her in death.
She was a member of Walton Methodist Church and United
Methodist Women. She loved to play the organ and was well known for her sense
of humor and her immense generosity.
She is survived by two sons, Billy and Pam Spangler, and
Michael and Jacque Spangler, all of Walton; step-daughter, Joyce Sperry of Fort
Morgan, Colo.; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by her parents, Simon and
Edna Shumate, and sister, Bessie.
A memorial service is planned at a later date.
Memorials may be left with Hospice Care of Kansas or the
Halstead Health and Rehab in care of Petersen Funeral Home in Newton.

Mary 'Kit' Spangler services
Services for Mary 'Kit' Spangler, who died on Friday (July
24, 2009), have been announced.
A memorial service will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Halstead
Health and Rehabilitation in Halstead. Presiding ministers will be Judith May
of Walton Methodist Church and Chaplains Peter Hartman and Mike Hambley of
Hospice Care of Kansas.
Petersen Funeral Home in Newton is in charge of
arrangements.
