Jack L. Miser

Jack L. Miser, 86, formerly of Grand Rapids, Marne and Sparta, Mich., died Friday (Feb. 27, 2004) at his residence in Newton. He was born Jan. 1, 1918, to Chet and Myrtle (Franklin) Miser in Noble County, Ind. They preceded him in death. He married Hazel Zink in May 1941 in Rapid City, S.D. She survives of the home. He served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II from 1941 to 1942. He was an electrical contractor and owner of T & M Electric, serving the Grand Rapids, Marne and Sparta areas for 30 years and retiring in 1983. He and his wife had recently moved to Newton.

Other survivors include: a daughter, Valerie Sump and husband Dale of Newton; a sister, Eleanor 'Mickey' Clark of Rapid City; a brother, Lester Rowen of Little Falls, Minn.; two granddaughters, Jackie (Sump) Quiring and husband Don and Trisha (Sump) Esslinger and husband Jason, all of Newton; a grandson, Stephen Sump of Newton; three sisters-in-law, Bea Nelson of Grand Rapids, Gladys Zink of Jacksonville, Fla., Irene Alden of Brunswick, Maine; and seven great-grandchildren.

He also was preceded in death by: five brothers, Edward Rowen, Gordon Alden, Loren Rowen, Stanley Miser and Wayne Miser; a sister, Betty McMahon; a grandson, Brandon Sump; a stepmother, Helen Miser; and a stepfather; Edward 'Pat' Rowen.

Visitation was 10 to 11 a. m. today prior to the service at the First Church of the Nazarene.

Funeral service was 11 a. m. today at First Church of the Nazarene with Chaplain Peter Hartman of Hospice Care of Kansas, Pastor and Rick Dages of the church officiating.

Burial was in Greenwood Cemtery.

Memorials have been established with Hospice Care of Kansas in care of Broadway Colonial Funeral Home.
