1933 - 2018

Obituary

Thomas R. Marshall Sr., 84, of Lindsborg, formerly of Newton, died Saturday (Feb. 3, 2018). He was born June 23, 1933, in Hillside, New Jersey, the 13th child of William and Gertrude (Young) Marshall.

Tom proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1953 to 1955. He was a Korean War veteran. Tom was a retired machinist from AGCO after 32 years.

Tom is preceded in death by his wife, Lois, of 54 years; son, Thomas R. "TJ" Marshall Jr.; parents; seven brothers: John, Robert, George, William, James (twin), Elmer and Carlton "Carly"; four sisters: Gertrude Kohl, Alice "Dolly" Klose, Mildred Marshall and Hilda Lode; father-in-law, William L. (Dorothy "Dot") Squires; mother-in-law, Laura E. (Rev. Frank A.) Miller; and brother-in-law, William "Bill" (Helga) Squires.

Survivors include his daughter, Kristene (Mel) Alexander of Lindsborg; five grandchildren: Chelsea Kay Alexander of Lindsborg, Ian James Thomas Stribling of McPherson, Brianna Alexander of Salina, Tyler Alexander of Lindsborg and Megan Alexander of Lubbock, Texas; sister, Ruth Flanagan of Hillside, New Jersey; sisters-in-laws, Erna "Chris" (Steve) Shenk of Orlando, Florida, and Lora (Eddie) Schumacher of Pineville, Louisiana; 24 nieces and nephews; and special family: Tisha, Zowie, Karly, Keith and Jonathan.

There will be no visitation. Graveside burial, with full military honors, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday (Feb. 7, 2018) at Restlawn Garden of Memory Cemetery, Newton.
