Gwendolyn "Gwen" Farquhar
Schlender, 94, of Moundridge, former Burrton resident, died Thursday
(Feb. 1, 2018) at Pine Village. She was born July 10, 1923, in
Clarinda, Iowa, the daughter of Lisle P. and Marion M. (Quinn)
Farquhar. Gwen grew up on a farm near College Springs, Iowa, and
graduated from Amity High School in College Springs in 1941. She
graduated from Sterling College in 1945.
Gwen was a Moundridge and Burrton
resident and was a high school teacher in both places. She was a
faithful wife on the family's dairy farm near Burrton. She was a
member of United Methodist Church in Moundridge.
On Aug. 8, 1947, she married Fredrick
"Fred" A. Schlender at the home of the bride's parents near
College Springs, Iowa. He preceded her in death on Jan. 14, 2006.
Gwen is survived by son, Fredrick
"Rick" Jr. and wife Carole of Burrton; three daughters:
Joyce and Bob McDowell of Halstead, Marilyn and Greg Wilkens of
Hutchinson and Betty and Tim Matt of Frisco, Texas; younger sister,
Phyllis Wagoner of Clarinda, Iowa; three granddaughters: Denise and
Tony Nisly, Lynette Wilkens and Erica Schlender; and one
great-granddaughter, Keira Nisly.
She was preceded in death by her
parents; and a grandson, Tyler Allen Schlender.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m.
Saturday (Feb. 10, 2018) at United Methodist Church, 226 S. Christian
St., Moundridge, with Pastor Brian Mills officiating. Burial will be
at 10 a.m. at the Mound Township Cemetery. The family will receive
friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday (Feb. 9, 2018) at the funeral home.
