Ferne Lorene Unruh
Ferne Lorene Unruh, 91, of Manhattan, passed away Saturday
(June 6, 2009) in Manhattan.
She was born on May 27, 1918, in Moundridge, the third child
in the family of Leonard N. and Edith Werner Westerman.
She spent her early years in Moundridge, where she received
her education, graduating from high school in 1936. She later graduated from
Bethel College in 1941 with a major in home economics and education. Her
teaching career included four years at Roxbury High School and one year at
Sherman Junior High School in Hutchinson.
She is survived by her husband, Chester R. Unruh Sr., of the
home and the extended families of Chester R. Jr. and Peggy Unruh of Katy,
Texas, Candy Ann and Steven (deceased) Beck of Longmont, Colo., and Kay
Elizabeth and Bill Hileman of Rifle, Colo.; sister, Sherry Wedel of Hesston;
nine grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers;
and two sisters.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at
Irvin-Parkview Funeral Home in Manhattan.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at First
Presbyterian Church in Manhattan, with the Rev. R. C. "Cam" McConnell
officiating. Burial will follow at Sunrise Cemetery in Manhattan.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Alzheimer's
Association and left in care of the funeral home.
