were married on June 11, 1949, in Iowa City, Iowa. After completing
training, they moved to Hesston and Helen began her long nursing
career. To this marriage, three children were born: Douglas, Lowell,
and Janine.
A member of Whitestone Mennonite Church
in Hesston at her death, she was baptized at the age of 11 and became
a member of the East Union Mennonite Church in rural Kalona, Iowa.
After her marriage, she transferred her membership to the
Pennsylvania Mennonite Church in rural Newton (Zimmerdale) and after
completion of the new church she transferred it to Whitestone.

early childhood and read many books over the years, continuing until
the last few weeks of her life. She also enjoyed poetry, collecting
many poems she liked and making a scrapbook, even writing some of her
own poems. Other hobbies included crocheting and knitting, gardening,

many years.
