Wallace C. 'Vic' Seibel
Wallace C. 'Vic' Seibel left this life Monday (June 15,
2009) at the age of 87.
He was born on Dec. 2, 1921, in rural Marion County.
Wallace grew up in rural Peabody and attended eight years of
education at Center School northwest of Peabody and two years of high school in
Peabody, where he met his future wife, Betty Newton.
He was drafted into the U.S. Army in August 1942 and,
following a re-enlistment, served until he received his honorable discharge in
February 1946. During a nine-day furlough and following a four-year courtship,
he and Betty were married on April 5, 1943, in her parents' home in Peabody.
After his discharge, Wallace returned to Peabody, where he
was employed by KP&L. Later, he owned and operated Vic's Cafe and worked as
a fabrication department supervisor at Hay and Forage Industries in Hesston. He
retired from Hay and Forage in December 1985 after almost 25 years of
employment.
Following Wallace's retirement, he and Betty traveled
extensively in the continental United States. In later years, Wallace enjoyed
visiting and being visited by his children and his many grandchildren and
great-grandchildren. He will be missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Betty; five
children, Judy Eskridge, Patricia Hall and husband, Gary, David Seibel and
wife, Debra, Richard Seibel and wife, Sharla, and Deb Brewer and husband,
Bruce; 14 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren. His 27th great-grandchild
is expected in July.
He was preceded in death by his parents, David and Bertha
Seibel, and brothers, LeRoy and Vernon.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Baker
Funeral Home in Peabody.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at United Methodist
Church in Peabody.
